Newer subdivisions and build quality are what drive value in LaSalle. This is where the county's modern housing stock is concentrated, and buyers looking for a house designed for the way people live now run their shortest Essex County search here.
LaSalle is a young town on old ground. It only became a town in its current form in 1991, when Sandwich West Township changed status and took the name. There had been a Town of LaSalle before that, incorporated in 1924, but it dissolved in 1959 and folded back into the township. So the municipality is newer than a lot of the people living in it.
That history shows up in the housing, and it's the reason people come here. Laurier Parkway and the streets running off it, the developments that have gone up over the last two decades, and the newer builds still coming are where most of the county's modern stock sits.
That has knock-on effects worth understanding. Newer stock means newer everything else: services, roads, the rec complex, the parks. The town grew fast enough to build its infrastructure around the growth rather than retrofit it afterward. A buyer coming from a century home in Windsor notices the difference in the first week.
The town covers about 65 square kilometres along the river, and its land area takes in Fighting Island out in the Detroit River, which is privately owned by BASF.

The Vollmer Culture and Recreation Complex
This is the centre of gravity in LaSalle, and the numbers are worth reading twice. Two hundred and twenty acres at 2121 Laurier Parkway. Two NHL-sized ice pads, Rink A seating a thousand and the Gary L Parent CAW Rink seating two hundred. Thirty soccer fields, running from small community pitches up to international size. Six softball diamonds and two hardball. A pool with a waterslide, sauna, and hot tub, a fitness centre, and an indoor walking track. An outdoor skate park and a splashpad. Seven parking lots holding fifteen hundred vehicles. It was built in 2008 and named for the Vollmer family, who put their weight behind getting it built. Rink A is home ice for the LaSalle Vipers of the GOJHL. The Vollmer Loop trail runs around the ponds on the property, which draw migratory birds and, fairly often, deer. For a town of 32,000 that is a remarkable amount of recreation in one place, and it does a lot of the work of making LaSalle feel like its own town rather than the far end of Windsor.
The river and the trail
Gil Maure Park sits on the Detroit River with playgrounds and open space, and the Riverfront Trail runs along the water for walking, cycling, and watching freighter traffic go by. There are sixteen interpretive signs along the trails with facts about the town and the country. LaSalle Landing at 970 Front Road has The Loop and the Event Centre.
Parks and trails
Beyond Vollmer there's Brunet Park with its loop trail, Heritage Park, Bouffard Park with a boat launch and fishing pier, Vince Marcotte Park, and River Canard Park, which carries additional ball diamonds. LaSalle's paved trail network runs through and between them and connects into Windsor's trails, which makes cycling into the city genuinely practical rather than theoretical.

Fox Glen Golf Club and the public Laurier Golf Club are both in town.
Shopping and services
Malden Road is the commercial spine, with the grocery, the LCBO, the hardware, the coffee, and most of the town's restaurants along it. Town Hall is at 5950 Malden, and the Essex County Library's LaSalle branch is nearby.
Healthcare
There's no hospital in LaSalle. Emergency and inpatient care is in Windsor, which is minutes away, and the town has family practices, walk-in clinics, and dental and allied health services for everything routine.
On the water
The Detroit River fishing here is well known, and there are ramps for launching.
History
The LaSalle Historical Museum covers the town's agricultural past, which is closer to the surface than the newer streets suggest.
Things that happen every year
The Strawberry Festival is the big one, four days in June at the Vollmer Complex, and it's now in its thirty-eighth year. Roughly 22,300 people came through in 2026. Carnival rides, the community parade, fireworks, live music, and strawberries with ice cream. Transit runs free during the festival weekend. Beyond that there's the LaSalle Craft Beer Festival, the Night Market at the Civic Centre on Malden Road, and the Canada Day celebration at LaSalle Landing.
Getting around
LaSalle Transit runs its own routes, and Windsor is right next door.
